Brief and challenge
The brief
A self-initiated project: invent a Lagos creative studio from scratch, NKALI, from the Igbo word for “to be greater than”, and build it a complete identity and website with no page builder involved. Pure custom code.
The challenge
An agency site cannot claim capability; it has to demonstrate it in every scroll. That meant motion, interaction and typography doing the selling: a cursor-reactive hero, animated counters, rolling pricing digits and a project carousel, all while staying fast and readable.
Designed like a brand. Built like a product.
Three decisions that shaped the build: what I chose, why, and what it replaced.
Build a brand before a website
Decision
A complete fictional brand system: Archivo Black display type, IBM Plex Mono details, and an ink, bone and electric yellow palette.
Why
The site’s one argument is that attention is cheap and being remembered is not, so the brand had to be memorable first.
Constraint
Rooted in Lagos: section labels run in Igbo and English throughout.

Hand-code it, no page builder
Decision
A React single-page application built with Vite and deployed as a production bundle.
Why
The project exists to prove front-end capability beyond page builders.
Instead of
A page builder theme.

Let the interactions make the pitch
Decision
A cursor-reactive hero canvas, animated stat counters, rolling pricing digits and marquee service strips.
Why
For an agency, motion is the portfolio: visitors judge the craft by how the site moves.
Constraint
Every effect had to keep the page fast and readable.
